What Compacter Does
Microsoft Access Databases make "soft deletes" when deleting records or System Objects such as tables, queries, forms, etc.  That means although the object or record is deleted the space where the record or object used to reside in the Access file, has not been deleted.  What Compacter does is delete that space thereby compressing the Access file.  Compressing the file improves performance and stability of your Access application.  Compacter does not require MS Access to be running.  In fact, Compacter does not even need MS Access to be installed on the machine and can do whole directories and subdirectories so you do need to specify each file.  You can even chose to compact every single Access file on a machine by adding one directory C:.

Compacter Does Back-ups too.
Besides compacting the file, Compacter has a number of back-up options including zipping the file for further compression.
